Donald Trump supports the Keystone XL Pipeline, do you?

Donald has not shied away from showing his support for the pipeline. He flat came out and said “If I am elected President I will immediately approve the Keystone XL pipeline. No impact on environment & lots of jobs for U.S.” He is very clear on his opinion, are you clear on yours? Do you have all the facts? Here is a quick summary so you can make up your mind.

What is the Keystone XL Pipeline?

The Keystone XL project would expand an existing pipeline from the vast tar sands of Alberta to refineries in the US Midwest, nearly doubling the initial capacity and transporting crude oil deeper into America to refineries on the Gulf coast of Texas. Its proposed route would stretch about 1,660 miles, connecting Hardisty, Alberta to Port Arthur, Texas. It was first proposed in 2008.

Quick Facts:

- Would create about 42,000 direct and indirect jobs and generate about $2 billion in earnings.

- Being built by TransCanada

- Trump invested $250,000 in TransCanda

- The State Department released an environmental review that concluded the Keystone XL very likely wouldn't have a significant effect on greenhouse gas emissions.

- 329 miles (529 km) in Canada (Hardisty, Alta., to Monchy, Sask.)

- 840 miles (1,351 km) in the United States (Phillips County, Mont. to Steele City, Neb.)

- 36-inch diameter pipeline

- Capacity of 830,000 barrels per day

- Obama blocked the project in early 2012 – taking it off the table as an issue in his re-election later that year.

- About 40 percent of the total project has been built so far.
