High School diploma or equivalent from a vocational school - Minimum of 3 years’ experience as Control Operator of a Combined Cycle plant or: - 10 years experience as a Power Plant Operator, 3 of which must have been as Control Operator in a large (> 300 MW) Power Plant and 2 years of which must have been in gas turbine operations - Strongly support operations procedures and checklists to ensure operational consistency - Ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure, performance and meter calculations.Read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals. - Use hand and power tools. - Communicate conditions of plant systems and equipment to others. - Apply knowledge of power plant operations and power plant principles to daily decision making and work tasks. - Operate computer keyboards and printers. - Interpret and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panels. - Work without direct supervision while performing assigned duties. - Monitor, record and analyze various readings of electrical and mechanical meters. - Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches, control devices and valves and the effect each has on total plant operations. - Meet physical requirements of the job such as perform tasks while standing, walking, climbing and squatting. - Work with extended reach above head and in front of body, and lift 50 pounds and carry while walking distances up to 10 feet. - Ability to operate company vehicles and mobile equipment. - Willingness to train and function as a multi-skilled operator/technician. - Candidates must receive a rating of “Recommended” on the NRG Pre-Employment Skills Assessment.

Official description on file with Human Resources - Control room and outside operation of all station equipment and systems including Heat Recovery Steam Generators, gas and steam turbine generators, and station auxiliary equipment during routine, abnormal and emergency operations. - Understand and execute all NRG policies, plans, procedures and station permits including equipment clearance isolation and lockout-tag out. - Communicate information clearly, including orally, written and electronically. - Assist maintenance personnel in performance of maintenance activities to include use of tools, equipment ant Company vehicles.Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems. - Create and review work orders for execution of equipment repairs. - Operate various computer systems to retrieve, analyze, comprehend and input data. - Monitor and record data using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems, and other devices onto shift logs as detailed by plant operational procedures. - Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as required. - Observe variations in operating conditions; interpret meter and gauge readings and act in proper and safe manner in response to such conditions. - Perform other duties as may be assigned.
