Primary Responsibilities

This position is within the Health, Environment, Safety & Security (HES&S) Department of Sunoco Logistics, and more specifically the Environmental Compliance area of the HES&S Department. The Environmental Compliance area of HES&S is responsible to advise, assist, and audit the various Departments within Sunoco Logistics in areas pertaining to regulatory compliance with Environmental laws and regulations. The environmental compliance area includes state and federal laws and regulations in areas such as air quality, water quality, and waste management. The environmental compliance group is involved with permitting efforts for on-going existing operations as well as new projects.

As an Environmental Intern in the HES&S Department the focus will be on assisting with various assignments such as:

Permit renewals, organizing electronic records, and routine compliance submissions in support of the day-to-day compliance functions.
Assist with the population/organization of permit conditions and data in support of a new Compliance Management System.
Assistance with spill plan and spill preparation materials for the Emergency Planning and Response portion of the HES&S group will be a portion of the summer work assignment.
Exposure to a wide variety of areas and topics within the environmental field, as well as interaction with several environmental professionals.


Minimum Requirements

A student pursuing a degree in Environmental Science or Engineering is required.
An individual with strong math and analytical skills, but also with the ability to read and interpret regulations and permit conditions.
Driven to learn new things, while also having the ability to work independently after being given up front direction.
Attention to detail, a must.
Routinely being able to interact with all levels of internal employees from first line operators through higher-level management demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse spectrum of people is required.


Special Considerations

This position will require occasional business travel to our terminal based in Nederland, TX.
