Technical Training Specialist

The Technical Training Specialist will prepare and present training programs to field performers in all aspects of Gas Operations craft operations, maintenance and construction. Prepares and presents training in both classroom, field and lab situations. Ensuring the class attendees are successful in applying the subject matter to their daily work. Works with field supervision to determine both general and job/site specific training needs and fills those needs.

 

 

Responsibilities and duties: 

Deliver hands on technical training to the Gas Operations craft workforce 

Perform group presentations to communicate and train on technical issues
Provide individual assistance and training on technical issues
Perform research and study needed to thoroughly understand Gas Operations craft procedures, requirements, protective schemes, equipment, standards, and processes and be capable of sharing this knowledge with applicable work groups in the field
Deploy new work processes and procedures
Work with supervisors to insure that workers are qualified and maintain qualifications

 

Design, build and maintain training areas 

Keep training areas prepared for necessary training sessions
Keep training vehicles stocked with proper tools and up to date with compliance materials and equipment as well as keeping the vehicles maintained
Communicate with standards department to insure all training materials used are the latest approved materials

 

Interacts with management, safety professionals, and technical skills specialists in the regions 

Maintains knowledge of Duke Energy/Gas Operations Safe Work Practices and Plans and remains abreast of application of leaders, coordinators and performers, i.e. Guiding Principles, Safety Focus in Operational Plan, Safety Improvement
Plan, Recognition, Assessment System, Reporting, Safety Steering Teams, Methods/ Equipment, compliance with regulations, vendor/public safety, measurement, and support/encouragement
Maintains knowledge of Gas Operations Work methods
Interacts in safety meetings and communication meetings
Interacts with SME’s to coordinate OJT needed for craft workers and other professionals
Representative for Gas Operations craft workforce to the Vehicle Standards Team to recommend standards and provide vehicle in-service training as needed

 

Design, recommend changes and stay abreast of all training materials 

Work with the field management to provide constant feedback on what changes need to be integrated in the training materials
Communicate with field management and supervision to continuously evaluate the training sessions
Design assessment tools to verify the effectiveness of the training
Assist supervisors with coordinating the documentation of the employee training records

 

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma
Five (5) years of experience in Delivery Operations/Technical Training
Knowledge and significant experience of distribution construction and maintenance

Desired Qualifications:

Two year technical degree
Eight (8) years of experience in Delivery Operations/Technical Training
Experience with gas operations computer applications
Experience in effectively handling of employee relations issues
Current CDL driver’s license
All necessary compliance training to be a qualified gas operations worker
Self-directed with strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead others through change
Demonstrated ability of utilizing Safe Work Practices and Work Methods and Procedures
Demonstrated ability in analyzing and resolving technical design, construction and operational issues
Demonstrated ability of utilizing proper application of tools and equipment
Ability to facilitate groups and stand up instruct to include motivating employees
Capability to perform and demonstrate applicable gas operations craft skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Effective oral and written communication skills
